How HUMA's AI voice interviewer works — from invite to transcript.

Overview

HUMA's AI Voice Call feature lets you conduct real-time voice interviews with candidates automatically. The AI interviewer holds a natural, adaptive conversation and captures a full transcript.

No scheduling coordination. No human time consumed. Candidates join via a simple link.


How It Works

Session Flow

HUMA manages the entire interview session end-to-end:

  • The candidate's audio is streamed to the AI in real time
  • The AI's responses are delivered with ultra-low latency
  • The full transcript is captured and stored automatically

Candidate Experience

  1. Candidate receives an email invitation with a unique public URL
  2. They open the link in any modern browser — no account, no app download required
  3. They grant microphone access and begin the interview
  4. The AI greets them, asks questions based on the position's configuration, and adapts based on answers
  5. When the session ends, the transcript is saved and a report is triggered automatically

Setting Up an AI Call

Step 1 — Configure the Position

Before sending invites, make sure your Position has evaluation factors defined. These guide the AI's questioning strategy and scoring.

Go to Positions → select a position → Evaluation Factors → add categories (e.g. "Communication Skills", "Technical Knowledge") with weights.

Step 2 — Add the Candidate

Go to CandidatesAdd Candidate (or bulk upload). Each candidate automatically gets a unique, secure interview link.

Step 3 — Send the Invite

Select one or more candidates → click Send AI Call Invite. HUMA sends an email with a personalized interview link.

You can also send invites in bulk from the Candidates list view.

Step 4 — Monitor Call Status

The call status updates in real time:

  • pending — invite sent, candidate hasn't started
  • in_progress — candidate is in the interview
  • completed — session ended, report being generated
  • report_ready — AI report is available

Transcripts

After each call, HUMA stores the full conversation transcript — every candidate response and AI utterance, timestamped.

You can view the transcript from:

  • Reports → select the report → Transcript tab
  • Candidates → select a candidate → AI Calls tab

Proctoring

During every AI call, HUMA runs client-side integrity monitoring in the candidate's browser. See Video Proctoring for full details.


Batch Operations

You can send AI call invitations to multiple candidates at once:

  1. Go to Candidates list
  2. Check the candidates you want to invite
  3. Click Batch ActionsSend AI Call Invite

FAQ

Can a candidate retake the interview? No. Each candidate's interview link is tied to a single session. If needed, you can create a new AI call for the same candidate from the admin panel.

What happens if the connection drops? The session is auto-completed after a configurable inactivity timeout (default: 2 minutes). The transcript captured up to that point is preserved.

Is the call recorded? The conversation is transcribed and stored as text. Audio recording depends on your workspace configuration.
