Video Proctoring
How HUMA monitors interview integrity using browser-based ML — without uploading raw video.
Overview
HUMA includes built-in integrity monitoring for every AI voice call. The proctoring system runs entirely in the candidate's browser using machine learning — no raw video is ever uploaded to HUMA's servers.
The result: a per-interview integrity score and a timestamped proctoring report that interviewers can review.
What Gets Monitored
| Signal | What It Detects | |---|---| | Face Detection | Whether a face is present in frame throughout the session | | Attention Tracking | Unusual or sustained shifts in gaze and head orientation | | Audio Anomaly | Background voices or unusual noise patterns | | Suspicious Voice Patterns | Whether the candidate may be receiving outside assistance | | Tab Switch | Whether the candidate leaves the interview tab |
How It Works
Runs Locally — No Raw Video Upload
The integrity monitoring system runs as a background process in the candidate's browser during the AI call. It:
- Captures video frames from the camera at regular intervals
- Analyses them locally using on-device intelligence
- Detects anomaly events (e.g. face disappears, attention drifts, audio spike)
- Sends lightweight integrity events to HUMA — no raw video or audio is ever uploaded
No raw video frames are sent to the server — only timestamped event records.
Severity Levels
Each proctoring event has a severity level:
low— minor anomaly (brief head turn, brief tab switch)medium— notable anomaly (sustained look-away, audio spike)high— serious anomaly (face not detected for extended period, AI voice pattern detected)
Violation Markers
High-severity events are recorded as ViolationMarkers with timestamps. These are synced with the call recording so reviewers can jump directly to flagged moments.
Reviewing the Proctoring Report
After a call completes, the proctoring report is automatically generated and available in:
Reports → select report → Integrity tab
The report shows:
- Overall Integrity Score (0–100)
- Timeline of all proctoring events
- Severity breakdown
- Any flagged violation markers
Video Playback with Proctoring Timeline
If a recording is available, you can play it back with the proctoring timeline overlay:
- Go to Reports → Integrity tab
- Click View Recording
- The timeline shows colored markers at violation timestamps — click any marker to jump to that moment
Privacy Considerations
- All video and audio processing happens locally in the candidate's browser
- Only event metadata (timestamp, type, severity) is sent to HUMA servers
- No raw video or audio is stored on HUMA's infrastructure by default
- Candidates are informed of monitoring via a disclosure screen before the interview starts
FAQ
Can candidates disable proctoring? No. Proctoring is always active during AI calls. Candidates must grant camera and microphone permissions to proceed.
Does proctoring affect performance? The integrity monitoring system is lightweight and optimised for standard devices. Most candidates experience no perceptible slowdown during the interview.
Is the integrity score used in the AI report? The integrity score is separate from the evaluation report. Interviewers can view both side by side and weigh the integrity score as they see fit.
